TGIF

Random thoughts on a Friday morning…

My wife made it back from her trip to Phoenix and no the plane did not overshoot Minneapolis! That is always good news for the parent that didn’t get to go on the trip and had to stay behind to take care of the kids!

Speaking of the kids…

Our oldest was sick yesterday and didn’t go to school. He started having a sore throat a couple of days ago and then a cough quickly followed. He never had a fever, so H1N1 didn’t seem too likely. He had a rough night on Wednesday and really didn’t sleep well. I took him to the doctor yesterday and had a strep test done, which turned out to be negative. The doctor was able to give him something to help with the cough and told us it will have to run it’s course. He was feeling better later in the day and was back in school this morning.

Looking forward to the weekend…

The forecast says we’re in store for a pretty nice weekend, weather wise. I am running a half marathon in Minneapolis on Saturday morning and I am hoping for cool, dry weather. I’m pretty confident I’ll get the former, hoping for the latter! It’s my final race of the “season”. In the past 6 weeks I’ve ran the Twin Cities 10 Miler, the Des Moines Half Marathon and tomorrow, the “Monster Dash” Half Marathon. It should be fun, it’s a course that I’m very familiar with since I do most of my long runs along that same route. With good conditions, I’m hoping to better my Des Moines time of 1:49.

Ready for some football…

Following the race, I plan to watch the Iowa- Indiana football game. There is a lot riding on this game with Iowa being ranked #4 in the latest BCS poll. We had a great, but nervous time watching last week’s thrilling, last second victory over Michigan State. It was even sweeter since my neighbor is an MSU grad and we talked quite a bit of “smack” back and forth before the game. I just purchased tickets for my son and I for Iowa’s regular season finale against Minnesota on November 21st. I’m hoping we’ll see some history made!

Our local high school also has it’s first playoff game Saturday night. They are ranked number one in the state and seeded number one in their section.

Halloween…

My kids are already “plotting” their strategy for an assault on our neighborhood! Our oldest is going to a Halloween party and our younger ones will be going from house to house to see how much candy the can accumulate in a couple of hours. Unlike in year’s past, I have managed to stay away from the temptation to “snack” a little on our “supply” of candy before Halloween this year. (Dave wasn’t as fortunate in today’s strip.) It is just a little too easy to say you’ll pick up some more when you’re at the store!

Anyway, we are ready for the onslaught of the young ghosts and goblins, but all bets are off next week when I’ll have the kid’s candy haul staring me in the face!

Fall back…

Don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour on Saturday night.

My advice…

You get an extra hour, use it wisely!

Have a great weekend!
