Seems Like Old Times

It’s hard to believe it’s been nearly a year!

A year since my dream weekend of bucking the odds!

March 19th, 2010, my partner, Joe and I completed an improbable run and won my neighbor’s annual cribbage tournament.

The following day, my Northern Iowa Panther men’s basketball team completed one of the biggest upsets in NCAA tournament history by knocking off the number one seeded, Kansas Jayhawks.

Needless to say, we were both longshots!

With the Northern Iowa win, a showdown with powerhouse, Michigan State of the Big Ten was set. It also set up a showdown with my neighbor and good friend, Pete. (Pete is an alum of MSU and me, UNI.)

This meant more than which team advances to the next round.

This was for bragging rights and a steak dinner!

It was a week filled with good natured “pranks”. Remember the “S” letters Pete hung in my trees and the purple and gold streamers I was so kind to decorate his house with?

The dream season ended the following Friday night when my Panthers lost to the Spartans, 59 to 52.

The bragging rights were forever lost too.

Or, so I thought!

Northern Iowa didn’t make the tournament this year and Michigan State made an early exit last night, but, to my surprise, UNI and MSU are once again battling on the hardwood.

This time in the NCAA Women’s tournament!

So bragging rights and another steak dinner ( I still owe the first one) will be on the line when our two teams meet this weekend.

As for the cribbage…

My partner and I will be going for unprecedented back-to-back titles tonight.

Here’s to another “dream” weekend!

Once again, for neighborhood bragging rights!
