Things I Learned This Week…

*History does repeat itself!

While going through some old files, I ran across the sports section of our newspaper from January 18, 1999.

That was the date the Minnesota Vikings lost in the NFC Championship game to the Atlanta Falcons. What was surprising was how many similarities that game had with last week’s championship game, in which the Vikings also lost.

An aging Randall Cunningham was playing quarterback for the Vikings in 1999, this year, Brett Favre.

Both games went into overtime.

Both games were decided on a field goal.

The Vikings lost 30 to 27 in 1999.

They lost 31 to 28 to the Saints this year.

Questionable decision making was key in both games. In 1999 Head Coach, Denny Green chose to run out the clock and play for overtime, instead of trying to win the game in regulation. Last week, the Vikings were penilized for “twelve men in the huddle”, that would prove just as costly.

Finally, guess who was the loser in the AFC Championship game in 1999?

Yep, the New York Jets!

*Jay Leno is worried!

Leno is returning to the “Tonight Show” on March 1st and I think he is very concerned if his audience will follow.

Whether you agree or not, Leno has been made out to be the “bad guy” in this whole late-night mess at NBC. Not only was he getting ripped by Conan O’Brien and some in the media, but he has really been getting the heat from his old and future competitor, David Letterman.

How worried is Jay?

This week he went on Oprah!

*This week Apple introduced it’s new, I-Pad.

Here’s hoping the “I-Touch” I got for my son for Christmas isn’t already obsolete!

*Bill Gates is now on Twitter.

Wow, those should be some riveting “tweets”!

*I learned this week the best way to lose your job as a “blogger” at ESPN.com is to write a really insensitive blog about the victims in Haiti.

Ex-Iowa State player and NBA journeyman, Paul Shirley also learned that lesson this week too!

*CPR

Actually, this would fall under the category of what I’ll learn tomorrow from 8:00 AM to Noon.

As part of my training as a leader in Boy Scouts, I will be completing a CPR course.

Always good to be prepared!

Happy Weekend!
